Elijah Wood returns to New Zealand, twenty years after his iconic role in The Lord of the Rings, for a new cinematic adventure, Bookworm. The film, directed by Sam S. R. H. Raye and scheduled for release on October 18, features Wood in a completely different guise to his iconic character of Frodo Baggins. In Bookworm, Elijah Wood plays Strawn Wise, an illusionist who returns to New Zealand to reconnect with his daughter Mildred, played by Nell Fisher. Mildred is a bright young woman who loves reading and is far from the father figure she has rarely seen in her life.

The film tells the story of their singular adventure in which Strawn, clumsy and out of place, follows his daughter in her search for the legendary Canterbury Panther, a mysterious wild cat that promises a reward of $50,000 if captured in a photograph. The trailer for Bookworm shows the contrast between the young Mildred, confident and focused, and her father who, although determined to make up for lost time, finds himself in an unfamiliar and uncomfortable land. Strawn tries to redeem himself from his years of absence through a journey that becomes both a physical adventure and a path of emotional reconciliation.

The film starring Elijah Wood offers a narrative that, while playing with elements of adventure and comedy, explores deeper themes such as family separation and the desire to rebuild broken bonds. The dynamics between the two protagonists provide moments of humor and reflection, with Mildred who, despite her initial skepticism, begins to show signs of connection with her father during their mission.
