Arcane co-creator Christian Linke has confirmed details about the three upcoming sequels, including the development status of the next series. Arcane’s second season concluded the story of Piltover and Zaun, providing closure to many characters’ stories while also opening the door for new stories to come. Linke has previously revealed information about these upcoming projects, including that several are in the works and that some will continue the stories of characters from the first series. This means that some familiar faces could return to the nascent League of Legends TV universe.
Now, speaking to Twitch streamer Necrit94 (via GamesRadar), Linke has confirmed that the next three League of Legends shows after Arcane will take place in Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia. While it’s unclear what order these regions of Runeterra will appear in, the co-creator and showrunner confirmed that the next series has already been in production for a year. Here’s what Linke had to say about the next series: Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia are all getting shows, and they’re the next steps in this cinematic universe…. [The next series has already been in development for about a year.
What Arcane sequels mean for the League of Legends TV universe
Since Linke confirmed that some Arcane characters would be returning in future series, it seems likely that Noxus will be the next region to be explored. Not only is Mel (Toks Olagundoye) originally from the region along with Ambessa (Ellen Thomas), but a three-eyed raven was seen in the final minutes of the show, signaling the arrival of the region’s ruler, Jericho Swain. He also plays a key role in a conflict with Ionia, meaning the two locations could be linked in their respective shows, much like Piltover and Zaun.
The fact that the next series has already been in production for a year is also good news, as it could shorten the wait between seasons. Arcane Season 1 took six years to make, while Season 2 took another three years. Depending on how long the next series’ planning phases last, it could arrive as early as 2026, though it’s unclear how long that will take for the next region. However, given the success of the first show, a new League of Legends series could be produced at a faster pace.
