The first trailer for Season 3 of What If...?, an anthology animated series that depicts what ifs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has been released. It features plenty of what-ifs for characters making their first animation appearance. Characters who appear include Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, Hulk, Red Guardian, Peggy Carter, Agatha Harkness, Shang-Chi, Storm, Vision, Gamora, Wong, Kaecilius, Howard the Duck, Darcy, and more. From slightly nostalgic characters to the latest characters, the story depicts the exploits of a unique cast of characters in a different universe.
The surprising thing about the series is that it includes scenes reminiscent of Japanese robot anime. Captain America and his friends transform and assemble robots like Mobile Suit Gundam to fight giant creatures. Other highlights include Shang-Chi as a cowboy, and the combination work of Red Guardian and Winter Soldier, who were also in the spotlight in Thunderbolts*. The Red Guardian in the film was aged and chubby, but this one is probably in his prime, showing sharp action with a toned body.
In the end, Storm, who has replaced Thor as the God of Thunder, makes a surprise appearance. This is the latest example of an X-Men character appearing in a Marvel Studios production. Season 3 is said to be the "conclusion of the trilogy." Producer Brad Winterbaum previously said, "It will take us to places we never expected. As we explore the multiverse, we will go far beyond the previous two seasons and introduce some very unexpected characters." "What If...?" Season 3 will consist of eight episodes and will be available on Disney Plus from December 22, 2024.
