Cobie Smulders answers the question of whether she would ever join a How I Met Your Mother reboot if the opportunity arose. The CBS sitcom ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014, telling the story of Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) as he recalls how he met the mother of his two teenage children while living in New York City. Smulders played Robin Sherbatsky on How I Met Your Mother, a Canadian news anchor who Ted meets in the opening episode and develops an on-and-off relationship with. More than 10 years after How I Met Your Mother ended, Smulders spoke to Collider about the possibility of returning for a reunion.
While Smulders had the opportunity to reprise his role as Robin for How I Met Your Father, the actor said he would still be open to reprising his role in the future. Anytime, anytime. I was lucky enough to do an episode of How I Met Your Father. So I feel like… we did it? Smulders went on to say that she still has fond memories of her time on the show and that she got to work alongside the cast and crew, which means that while nothing is currently in the works, she would be open to returning at any time. I love those people, so if I had to be in a scene with any of them again, I would. But there’s nothing yet. Let me be there!
Could a How I Met Your Mother reunion happen?
Smulders was one of the first members of the How I Met Your Mother main cast to reprise their roles on How I Met Your Father, where she and co-star, Neil Patrick Harris, shared a handful of life lessons with Hilary Duff’s Sophie. Initial plans for the spinoff called for each original cast member to reprise their roles throughout multiple seasons of the show, but the show’s cancellation in 2023 has shelved those plans. Additionally, with the cancellation of How I Met Your Father, a revival is unlikely to be in development anytime soon. While the show’s two seasons have done well in terms of overall viewership, critics have had mixed reviews of the series. Because of this, there may be some reluctance to return to the franchise any time soon.
