Bobby and Peter Farrelly have revealed the first look at their new film Dear Santa, starting with images of Jack Black playing Satan. The film is about a boy who makes a spelling mistake in his letter to Santa Claus, inadvertently inviting Satan to visit his house. Although Black is dressed in a red and white fur coat, it's pretty clear he's not the jolly Santa Claus. The first images from Dear Santa were released by Entertainment Weekly, who spoke to the Farrelly brothers about the highly anticipated project.

Black looks unusually subdued, but his costume more than makes up for it. The colors are on point, but the texture of the fur is more menacing, and his costume is covered in leather belts and chains. The Farrellys revealed that they had been working on the idea for about 15 years, but needed time to flesh it out. The duo last worked together on 2014’s Dumb & Dumber To 2. What did the Farrelly brothers say about Dear Santa starring Jack Black?

Bobby explained that they chose Black to play Satan because they wanted someone who could be “evil but in a funny way.” He continued, “Jack is that kind of guy who with his raised eyebrows and his faces and everything, always has a little bit of mischief, but he’s extremely funny, and that’s Jack. We never wanted to make it a horror movie or anything like that. We wanted it to be comedic. So it was a delicate play to play this iconic character but in a way that the audience could have fun with. And Jack was the perfect guy.”

Black was reportedly very excited to be part of the film, telling Bobby that he was “born to play this role.” The director said that Black took the initiative to send a photo of himself in a homemade costume, which ended up inspiring the final look of the film.

The lead role, however, goes to Robert Timothy Smith as Liam Turner, the boy who summoned evil into his house at Christmas. Other children include Jaden Carson Baker and Kai Cech, while adults Brianne Howes, Hayes MacArthur, and PJ Byrne round out the cast. Bobby then spoke about Keegan-Michael Key, saying, “Keegan, any time you can have him in a comedy, it’s a home run. And I was so happy when we got a role that I thought Keegan would be perfect for. Keegan plays the boy’s therapist and, as always, he’s great, he has ideas and I have a lot of fun working with him.”

Dear Santa premieres Monday, November 25 on Paramount+.
