The success of Fallout seems to have pushed Amazon to invest in more adaptations based on famous video games.

Video games have become the new protagonists of adaptations for the big and small screen, just like comics did a few years ago. The years of questionable transpositions by Uwe Boll are a distant memory, and today productions like Super Mario Bros. and The Last of Us demonstrate how important it is to respect the original spirit of a video game to achieve success. With this growing trend, it was inevitable that one of the best titles ever would end up in the spotlight: Mass Effect.

This time it is Prime Video that is betting on an adaptation, which follows the upcoming series on Fallout. After confirming the project on November 7, known among fans as “N7 Day” (about Commander Shepard’s N7 code), Amazon announced its intention to bring the famous BioWare game, which includes four main chapters and two spin-offs for mobile devices, to the screen. Mass Effect is not only a gripping space shooter but a sci-fi epic that also became famous for its freedom in interpersonal relationships, which allowed the player to establish romantic stories with different characters, regardless of gender or species.

In particular, the character of Garrus became an icon among fans for his popularity as Shepard’s partner (and also a bit of a fetish). In other words, we expect from this series not only epic action scenes but also “spicy” moments that could win over the Prime Video audience. At the moment, details on the plot and cast are still confidential, but it is known that the screenplay will be by Daniel Casey, screenwriter of Fast & Furious 9. We just have to wait for further updates. Meanwhile, BioWare is already hard at work on Mass Effect 5, although the release date has not yet been announced. After seven years of absence and the disappointing Andromeda chapter, fans are ready to see the Normandy back in action, this time streaming on Prime Video!
