Dexter is a thriller/mystery that depicts the public face and the sadistic private face of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a bloodstain forensic investigator for the Miami Metro Police Department who cannot suppress his desire to kill. It will be revived in 2021 with the limited series Dexter: New Blood, and the sequel Dexter: Resurrection is scheduled for 2025. The prequel, "Dexter: Original Sin," is set in Miami in 1991 and tells the story of how young Dexter (Patrick Gibson) transforms into a serial killer.

Christian Slater, known for "Mr. Robot" (2016-2019), plays Dexter's adoptive father, Harry, while Michael C. Hall, star of the original version, plays Dexter's "inner voice." The synopsis is as follows: "When Dexter can no longer ignore his bloodthirsty urges, he must learn how to control the darkness within. Under the guidance of his father Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a "code" that allows him to find and kill people who should be rejected from society while evading the eyes of the police. To make matters worse, Dexter must balance his actions outside the law with his forensic science internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. "

The trailer starts with the scene that leads to the end of "Dexter: New Blood." Dexter, in the present, who has been shot, looks back on his life like a slideshow in his head and begins to talk to himself, saying, "It all started with blood and the rules I learned from my father." Time flashes back to the past, and his adoptive father Harry explains, "This rule is for you to become a different person than the people you killed." Dexter's inner voice is narrated in a monotone, saying, "It's simple. Kill the bad guys who escape justice." Dexter begins his first murder. However, "you must not get caught."

There is a scene where his sister-in-law Deborah says to him, "Homicide is perfect for you," and a scene where he meets his colleagues at work, including young LaGuerta and Batista. In the end, Dexter says, "Learning the rules was just the beginning. It's the first time I make this a reality," and the film ends with a scene where he begins his killing ritual.

The cast includes Patrick Gibson from "The O.A." (2016-2019) as young Dexter, Christian Slater as Harry, singer and actor Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, James Martinez from "Love, Victor" (2020-2022) as Angel Batista, Alex Shimizu from "The Blacklist" seasons 6 and 7 as Vince Masuoka, and Molly Brown from "Senior Year" (2022) as Deborah.
