The big Hollywood studios have arbitrarily chosen to avoid big-budget releases during the post-election weekend, and this has pushed Venom: The Last Dance to easily hold third place at the box office for the third consecutive weekend. According to analysts, the fear of disproportionate reactions from voters to a hypothetical defeat of Donald Trump has brought to mind the riots that occurred in 2000. However, the third position of the new horror film from A24, Heretic, was good, helped in this case by the excellent reviews offered by critics.
The Hollywood Reporter, in fact, reported that Venom 3 grossed 16.2 million dollars over the weekend, for a total now of 114.8 million. Internationally, the Sony/Marvel film took home another $33 million and is now riding high with a decent global haul of $394.2 million, a great comeback from a disastrous start. The second position was the Lionsgate religious film “Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” which took in $11.1 million from 3,020 theaters.
The estimated gross, it should be noted, includes $2.2 million from “incentivized screenings,” meaning that for every ticket purchased, one person was given an additional free ticket. The horror film Heretic debuted in third place with a gross of $11 million from 3,221 theaters. Critics praised the film with a sumptuous 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, less enthusiastic but still excellent, however, were the opinions of the public, who assigned a 78%. Next weekend in the USA will debut Gladiator 2, therefore the head of the US Box Office is certainly destined to change.
